The TAU collection contains ca. 20 jars with 11 known termite species of Israel preserved in alcohol. Six species were originally described from Israel. The taxonomic status of two more species has not yet been determined. Most of the species are represented by alates, workers and soldiers. A few of them are represented by a few specimens only. The collection also contains wood, furniture chips and plastic cables that were damaged by termites. In addition the collection holds live colonies of three common species. An effort is now being made to clarify the taxonomic status of the Israeli termite fauna, including mDNA analysis together with scanning electron microscope analysis.
