In the year 2007, the Ministry of Science, Culture and Sports (currently Ministry of Science, Technology and Space) recognized the Natural History Collections at Tel-Aviv University as an Infrastructural Knowledge Center. Such centers are part existing research institution, and their main purpose is to extend its services to researchers and to transfer existing knowledge, rather than to produce the new knowledge as expected from research projects. This recognition allowed us to upgrade the collections as a research infrastructure, to promote collections based research, and to train the next generation of scientists, who conduct collections-based research.
