Dr. Dafna Langgut

Senior Lecturer at the Department of Archaeology and Ancient Near Eastern Cultures at the Tel Aviv University

Dr. Dafna Langgut is a curator of the Archaeobotanical Collection at the Steinhardt Museum of Natural History and a Senior Lecturer at the Department of Archaeology and Ancient Near Eastern Cultures at Tel Aviv University. Dafna received her PhD in archaeology in 2008 from Haifa University. At 2013 she established the Laboratory of Archaeobotany and Ancient Environments. Dafna specializes in studying past vegetation and climate based on the identification of botanical remains. In doing so, she reconstructs relationships between humans and their environment in the past, e.g. human dispersal out of Africa and the beginning of fruit trees cultivation. Dafna currently leads several projects, among them the reconstruction of the gardens of Herod the Great, 1.5 million years vegetation and climate reconstruction at Lake Zihor, the Negev Desert, and the origin and spread of olive cultivation.
