Associate curator of Hymenoptera, the Steinhardt Museum

Prof. Abraham Hefetz is an associate curator of Hymenoptera at the Steinhardt Museum. He received his PhD in 1977 from the University of Georgia, US. Abraham’s main interests are sociobiology and the evolution of social insects. Among Abraham’s notable discoveries is the use of chemical communication for the resolution of social conflicts. His current research focuses on the social behavior, sociogenomics of ants, bumblebees and honeybees, and phylogeography of ants in Israel. Abraham is the recipient of an Honorary Doctorate from the Sorbonne University of Paris, has been awarded the title of Chevalier of the Ordre des Palmes Académiques by the French Ministry of Science and Education, and is an honorary member of the Entomological Society of Israel.
