Dr. Daniella E. Bar-Yosef Mayer
Collection manager of palaeontology and archaeomalacology, the Steinhardt Museum
Dr. Daniella E. Bar-Yosef Mayer is a collection manager for palaeontology and archaeomalacology at the Steinhardt Museum of Natural History. Trained as a zooarchaeologist specializing in molluscs, she studies both shell and stone beads from archaeological sites. She earned her PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2000. She is affiliated as associate of the Peabody Museum of Archaeology and Ethnology at Harvard University since 1992, and as a research associate of the Sonia and Marco Nadler Institute of Archaeology of Tel Aviv University since 2015. In 2003, she founded the Archaeomalacology working group of the International Council for Archaeozoology. Her current research projects include shellfish and shell artifacts from the Upper Palaeolithic Manot Cave, western Galilee, Israel, and Jordan River Dureijat, an Epipalaeolithic shell midden.
