Dr. David G. Furth is currently a Research Associate and Collections Manager Emeritus at the US National Insect Collection of the National Museum of Natural History at the Smithsonian Institution, Washington, DC. He is an associate curator of entomology and museum advisor at the Steinhardt Museum, where he has been advising the director since 2011 about the development of the Museum and its collections, especially for Entomology, including preparation and moving the insect collections to the new Museum facilities. He is the president of Furth Museum Consulting, L.L.C. (FMC) through which he has taught a National Science Foundation-subsidized Entomological Collections Management Workshop in 2016, 2017, 2018, 2020, as well as advising various institutions on best practices for collections; FMC has also co-sponsored the annual Entomological Collections Network. He was formerly collections manager for Entomology at the Peabody Museum of Natural History at Yale University and at the Museum of Comparative Zoology at Harvard University. He has an MSc degree from Ohio State University and a PhD from Cornell University in Entomology. His entomological research focuses on the systematics, biogeography, ecology and biology of leaf beetles (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) worldwide but especially in the Neotropics (Mexico, Costa Rica) and in Israel. He is a former editor of the journals Psyche and the Israel Journal of Entomology and serves on the editorial boards of over 15 international entomological societies.
