Dr. Mike B. Mostovski is a collection manager for Diptera at the Steinhardt Museum. He looks after all Nematocera (excl. Cecidomyiidae), Brachycera Orthorrhapha and Calyptrata. Mike received his PhD degree in palaeoentomology in 1998 from the Russian Academy of Sciences, did his postdoctoral research into the taxonomy and systematics of scuttle flies (Diptera: Phoridae) at Cambridge University, UK, and then was appointed Chief Curator, later Head of Natural Sciences, at the Natal Museum in South Africa. His research interests include taxonomy and systematics of Afrotropical, Palaearctic and Oriental scuttle flies, Jurassic and Cretaceous brachyceran flies, and Cretaceous biostratigraphy and palaeoenvironments. For several years Mike taught the Invertebrate palaeontology and biostratigraphy module at the University of KwaZulu-Natal Westville. He was Chief Editor of African Invertebrates and is now responsible for publishing the Israel Journal of Entomology and the Museum annual reports. Mike has authored or co-authored over 70 articles in peer-reviewed journals.
