Dr. Tamar Feldstein-Farkash is the manager of the Molecular Systematics Laboratory and the Tissue Collection. Tamar completed her MSc. studies in Marine Biology and Oceanography at the Hebrew University, under the supervision of Prof. Amatzia Genin and received her PhD from Tel Aviv University supervised by Prof. Nathan Nelson and Dr. Ofer Mokady working on biomonitoring of marine pollution. She started working as a research assistant to Prof. Dorotheé Huchon working on molecular phylogeny of sponges, and then she was recruited to the museum staff and established the molecular systematics lab. In the lab, Tamar preforms molecular identification from a broad range of animal tissue. The lab also provides infrastructure, training and technical support for graduate students.
Tamar received her diploma in Curatorial and Museum Studies from the faculty of Arts at Tel Aviv University and is the curator of “Form and Function” and “The Web of Life in the Open Sea” permanent exhibitions at the SMNH.
