Molecular systematics lab

The molecular systematics lab of the Steinhardt Museum offers identification of animal tissues from museum samples when morphological identification is uncertain.

The resulting DNA sequences expand the available information on unique samples and contribute to better curation of the museum collections. We also provide barcoding services on request, e.g. identification of invasive species for the Israel Nature and Parks Authority and identification of bird remains in collaboration with the ‘feather identification lab‘ in the Museum.
The Lab also provides infrastructure and technical support for graduate students from the Tel Aviv School of Zoology, who utilize molecular protocols as part of their research.
