Ancient DNA lab
Paleogenomics (Ancient DNA) lab

Paleogenomics laboratory

The Steinhardt Museum Paleogenomics laboratory focuses on Near Eastern animals and plants, and sequence DNA from museum, archaeological and paleontological remains using state-of-the art-techniques.

The DNA work is done in a specially dedicated laboratory, designed to minimize a risk of contamination.
Our research areas comprise taxonomy, phylogeny and population history of extinct and extant species, including population movements, demographic changes and responses to environmental change.
We work closely with archaeologists, archaeozoologists and zoologists to reconstruct the past and answer questions relating to how, where and when the genetic changes occurred.
