Agricultural Biodiversity

Agriculture is closely linked to biodiversity, hence natural history museums often play a significant role in supporting agricultural practices and policies.  Many of the experts in our museum support agriculture: our taxonomists who are experts in terrestrial invertebrates support the Plant Protection & Inspection Services by identifying exotic species intercepted at our borders and assessing their risks; our bee taxonomists take part in studies of wild pollinators and their impact on agriculture; our experts for parasitoid wasps and beetles provide support for studies on biological control; our marine biologists study the impact of fishing on Mediterranean fish populations; and many of our experts provide support for studies on sustainable land use and management.
