Prof. Dorothée Huchon is the head of the molecular collections at the Steinhardt Museum and an Professor at the School of Zoology, Tel Aviv University (TAU). She completed her Ph.D. in phylogenetics, supervised by Profs. Emmanuel J. P. Douzery and François M. Catzeflis, at The Institute of Evolutionary Science of Montpellier (ISEM – University of Montpellier). She was a postdoctoral fellow at The Tokyo Institute of Technology, Yokohama in 2001 and at Florida State University, Tallahassee in 2012. Her main interests are Phylogenetics, Genome, and Molecular Evolution, focusing on parasitic cnidarians, tunicates, sponges, and small mammals.

The research in the lab involves applying next-generation sequencing methodologies together with advanced bioinformatics tools in order to shed light on Metazoan genome evolution. Recently, her group discovered the first animal that lost aerobic respiration.
