Dr. Gideon Pisanty

Curator of bees and parasitic wasps

Research associate at the Steinhardt Museum

Dr. Gideon Pisanty is curator of bees and parasitoid wasps at the Steinhardt Museum. He received his PhD from the Hebrew University of Jerusalem in 2014, studying crop pollination. Prior to his current position, he was a post-doctoral fellow at the Canadian National Collection in Ottawa, Canada, where he studied bee phylogenetics. His current research focuses on the species- and higher-level systematics of the bee genus Andrena – a huge genus of solitary ground-nesting bees, with over 1700 species worldwide and more than 220 species in Israel alone.
