Tenure track position in ecological economics and policy

The School of Social and Policy Studies at the Faculty of Social Sciences and the Steinhardt Museum of Natural History, Tel Aviv University, are seeking a dynamic research leader for a joint tenure-track position in ecological economics.

The appointment is tenure-tracked, with the expectation of achieving tenure within 5 years. It is designed to enable early career scientists to become tenured group leaders and to develop an independent, world-leading, research group. The successful candidate will be provided with start-up funds and training in research and teaching management.

The School of Social and Policy Studies is a focal point for the development of scientific and policy oriented research, teaching and training in core areas in the social sciences for BA, MA and PhD students. The school comprises four departments: Public Policy, Communication, Sociology and Anthropology and Labor Studies. It also houses four MA and PhD programs on Conflict Management and Mediation (Hebrew), Conflict Resolution (English), Migration (English) and Sustainable Development (English). Candidates are expected to consolidate the school’s research and teaching infrastructure in the areas of sustainability, renewable energy, circular and behavioural economics and policy.

The Steinhardt Museum of Natural History is Israel’s National Center for Biodiversity Studies, focusing on biodiversity research in the broad sense and multidisciplinary conservation science, at the interface of ecosystems, environment, agriculture, and sustainable nutrition. Comprising three Divisions – Collections & Research Division, Applied Policy-Relevant Research Division and a Public Division, it is a recognized national biodiversity research infrastructure.

Requirements

Candidates are expected to have a strong track record in the core research areas of both the School of Social and Policy Studies and the Steinhardt Museum of Natural History units.  The candidate must have a strong publication record and a clear research vision as well as a PhD and post-doctoral training at a recognized scientific group in these general fields.

Expectations

Prior to obtaining tenure, the successful candidate is expected to raise external funding, develop their own research programmes, contribute to the student learning experience through teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, and through their research and personal tutoring, and contribute to the scientific development of both School of Social and Policy Studies and the Steinhardt Museum of Natural History as a national research Infrastructure. The candidate will also be expected to supervise MSc and PhD students and publish regularly in leading international journals. Effective and vital cooperation with the scientific scholars in both units is strongly expected.
